Symposium on the Dark and Bright Sides of the Workplace
The symposium is focusing on both the dark and bright sides of workplace outcomes through the lens of Self-Determination Theory. Tomas Jungert will open the event with a brief introduction, followed by a seminar on workplace bullying led by Professor Sarah-Geneviève Trépanier, and a workshop on positive psychology conducted by Professor Jacques Forest. All are welcome!
Jacques Forest, Professor at the Department of Organization and Human Resources at the ESG UQAM, psychologist and Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). He is an expert on psychological needs at work, optimal human functioning, motivation at work using Self-Determination Theory, positive psychology, and mental health at work.
Sarah-Geneviève Trépanier, Professor at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Social Climate and Workplace Health. Her research focuses on the determinants of bullying in the workplace, its consequences in both the short and long term and to identify the contextual and individual factors that can mitigate these consequences.
Tomas Jungert (Lund University)
Tomas Jungert is associate professor of Psychology and works as a university lecturer at the Department of Psychology at Lund University. Tomas’ research interests are found in psychology and include work psychology, educational psychology, and social psychology and concern, for example, studies on motivation and school bullying.

Sarah-Geneviève Trépanier (UQTR) Workplace bullying (9.15-10.15)
Workplace bullying is a particularly harmful social stressor at work, with detrimental individual and organizational effects. In this seminar, Sarah-Geneviève Trépanier will provide an overview of her team’s research investigating individual consequences of workplace bullying and the psychological mechanisms involved and present conditions that facilitate, or prevent, the presence of negative behaviors at work.

Jacques Forest (ESG UQAM) Positive psychology, strengths use and technology (10:45-12:00)
Strengths management is an innovative and effective way to simultaneously promote performance and well-being at work and in life, as research evidence suggests. In this workshop Jacques Forest will show how this management technique is a complementary approach to current approaches to optimize the performance and how it contributes to the development of workers
